PPAC, Allegany Council on Alcoholism and Substance Abuse, Inc.(ACASA) and Tobacco-Free Chautauqua, Cattaraugus and Allegany(TFCCA) wanted to create an event that would educate college students about the dangers of alcohol, tobacco and other drug abuse. The group wanted an interactive event that would engage college students to participate, but also be able to educate other students on campus. Thus, the idea of “Paint for Prevention” was created in partnership with Alfred University.
Paint for Prevention is an artistic chalk event focusing on prevention messaging. The eighth annual event was completed on August 24, 2024. In the first eight years hundreds Alfred University students have participated. Their art and messaging can be seen below. Prizes are awarded for first, second and third place based on artistic ability and messaging. Participants and spectators also had a chance to win an Alfred University Saxon hoodie sweatshirt by answering questions focusing on prevention.
If you have any suggestions about events at local colleges or schools, please share them with Partners for Prevention in Allegany County at ppac@alleganycouncil.org.
